Embedding Youtube in 4chan

Like to browse imageboards and forums? Are you tired of having to copy and paste Youtube URLs like these?

Well, by tweaking your Firefox browser for 5 minutes it can look like this:

Additionally, this might work in browsers like Opera too, but Firefox is the one I’ve tested. Are you ready?

Step 1. Install Greasemonkey. Greasemonkey is a firefox add-on that allows custom made scripts to be integrated into the browser. These scripts range from website-specific functions that alter the appearance of the site, or general scripts that can be applied everywhere. For this tutorial, we’ll only need two scripts. But first, click “add to firefox” and then restart the browser.

Step 2. Install Linkify Plus. This script is very useful for browsing imageboards or forums that don’t allow hyperlinks. It identifies URLs that are not properly formatted (that can’t be clicked) and turns them clickable! Make sure that either boards.4chan.org/* or simply an asterisk * is added to the “included sites” field in the greasemonkey scripts window. If you want all sites to linkify links, use the asterisk.

Step 3. Install Videoembed. This is a script that embeds videos whenever it finds the links to them, such as youtube links. The problem is that it can’t identify un-clickable links, that’s why we needed linkify plus in the first place. And as with Linkify Plus, make sure that 4chan or the forum that you frequent is included within the field. An asterisk tells Greasemonkey to execute the script everywhere.

My added boards.4chan.org/* statement is quite superfluous since I already have the single asterisk.

And that’s it! No more rick rolls!

Top 5 Rage videos of 2009

Not all videos on the internet fulfill their goals of being either informative or entertaining, some end up being rather dull or downright bad. Some fail to such a great degree that they induce feelings like hate and despair. And rage. These are the clips that made us rage the most in 2009.

5. Nick Arcade

This tv show is not from 2009 per se, but rather the early 90’s. But never before has such a compilation of astounding stupidity been organized. Sure, playing video games infront of a live audience can’t be easy, but surely you don’t think that a hamburger is an office supply? Insert american social satire here.

4. Pokemon Costumes

Dear lord, what are you doing. I imagine if you have an eccentric hobby like sewing pokemon costumes for yourself, you come to terms with the bizarre and gradually over time become accustomed to it. The rest of us who get introduced to this madness without prior knowledge become.. awestruck, to say the least. Why does someone do this? Who are these people? Why do they have to ruin my childhood memories?

3. JoshU2ber aka JoshChristian99

This little fellow raged war on everything. Violent video games. Atheism. Gay marriage. 4chan. This has led me to believe that he was only a facade, a fake. Nevertheless, his rant on violent video games took a turn for the mega-rage at several occations. Not for the actual video games bit, but his proposal of what to do with your time instead. Maybe fake, still got me.

2. Popular youtubers

Fred, Smosh, Shane Dawson. What do these people have in common? They are all making videos for the masses, racking in massive hits and ratings. On their own, the videos aren’t always rage inducing (except for those of Fred), but the rage commences when you realize how many people watch this stuff and treats it like gold. Why are these people so popular? Oh well, I guess the popularity of these viral video stars will wane eventually.

Fred: The Movie will be a 2010 film based on the YouTube series about Fred Figglehorn

1. Converting an indian to christianity

Racism. Ignorance. Lacking geographical knowledge. Christianity. I sincerely hope this video, account and the whole shebang is just a cleverly disguised troll. Please let it be. I’m sure one of my blood vessels broke somewhere as a direct result of watching this. And I’m only two minutes in!
